What should I wear for a 3D pregnancy scan? (Or: do I need to be nude?)

No, you do not have to be nude. Most mothers scan in underwear only. The simple rule: the less the scanner has to capture (fabric, folds, fastenings), the cleaner the silhouette becomes — but comfort matters more than perfection. You choose.

Why fabric matters

The 3D scanner reads surfaces. Whatever it sees — your skin, a t-shirt, a band of lace — becomes part of the final form. A loose top will show up as a loose-top-shaped sculpture. A fitted strap will leave a faint line on the silhouette.

For the cleanest sculptural shape, the closer the surface is to your skin, the better the result.

What most mothers choose

Underwear only — the most common choice

Soft underwear, no bra, or a smooth fitted bra without lace or wide straps. This is what we recommend if you are unsure. The silhouette is clean, you are comfortable, and the room stays your own.

Fully nude — the cleanest silhouette

If you want the most direct, sculptural form, scan with no fabric at all. The result is a piece that reads like a classical statue — the body, on its own. No one is watching. The scanner stays in your hands.

Light fabric — for those who prefer it

A linen wrap, a fitted bandeau, or a soft slip works too. Just know it will become part of the form. Some mothers love this — they want the sculpture to remember the cloth they were comfortable in.

“The room stays yours. You scan alone. The scanner sees what you decide it sees.”

What to avoid

On privacy

You scan alone, in a room of your choice, at a time you decide. The scan stays on the device until you return it. Once it reaches us, it is stored privately in our archive and used only to make your sculpture. We never share, sell, or display your scan without your written permission.

What about partners?

Many mothers ask their partner to operate the scanner. Others want the moment to themselves. Both work — the kit is built for either. There is no right answer.
